Maybe a concert

A mariachi musician, a glittering cowboy… where’s the line between music and performance? Between languages and genres?

On stage, familiar yet alienating figures – a mariachi musician in stilettos, a glittering cowboy – inhabit a hybrid aesthetic universe that draws on Mexican folk tradition, the varieté, Westerns and pop culture. Maybe a Concert goes far beyond the traditional concert format, combining music and stage performance in an open structure.

At the centre of the work is the voice of Raissa Avilés, a Swiss singer, performer and songwriter of Mexican origin. The music, too – largely original – ranges across different genres, from folk to indie, with jazz elements and baroque influences… Between irony and tension, the result is a blended form that explores the possibilities of artistic and personal autonomy within systems marked by compromises and contradictions.
